Utah Building Boom

I visited a couple of job sites today for projects I’ve worked on in Bluffdale. They are sort of by the mountain view corridor. It’s crazy and I’m amazed by all the building going on at the point of the mountain, both residential and commercial.

Tilt-Up

I walked this site today. This is a concrete tilt-up building I worked on. It’s pretty cool how tilt-ups come together. It goes from flat to tall so quick. These walls are already insulated, which works especially well for warehouses. But, I’ve been thinking I bet this could look pretty cool in residential construction too.

Waterford School Addition

I was sent these updated pics for a project where I provided the budgetary costs as a consultant. The project was for a school in Sandy. It included a bunch of new classrooms, restrooms, flex space and some fairly extensive site work. Project came in within about 2-3% of the budget.

I love getting updates on projects I’ve worked on. This started out as an addition/remodel when we originally priced it out. Then the city wanted to look at the option of building a new library instead. The architect gave us a paragraph describing the proposed building to base the costs on. After we gave them a complete budget based on that paragraph, the city approved the new library. After complete design and bidding, the new library came in about 10% under budget of that original proposed budget.

Cool Design Ideas

Was researching some backlit stone walls for a project and thought these were pretty amazing. These are all made with natural stone that’s cut thin enough so that it allows transmission of light.

Leave it Alone!

Just checked my mail. This is about a weeks worth of mail from my office… yes, most of that mail is junk mail from Dish Network. I mean, I JUST signed up for Dish bundled with internet here THEN they started sending these sign-up cards! What more do they expect of me? It’s like when i bought a car and the dealership started sending a ton of mail to get me to buy a new car…. I just did! They need to just let it be, at least for a little while!

Wyoming Project with Our Roadtrip Music

While I was in Wyoming, I used Annalisa‘s equipment to get shots of a project I was a consultant on. The music in the video is definitely our “trip music”. The project turned out great. I had to quickly shoot the video before heading home. Maybe 5 min in the air and 20 min for the rest. I think it turned out pretty good!

Is Anyone There?

I’ve been working through a light refresh on my website and added a phone number link to make it easier for smartphones to dial because I personally like it when sites have that feature.

I Went to test it out… ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring… uh oh!!! I let the number expire!

Thankfully, the phone was only down for a short while, but gotta check that junk email folder more often because that’s where the notice of expiration ended up!
