Region Tourney at Sleepy Ridge

Today’s region tourney was at Sleepy Ridge golf course. Tommy shot 21st best overall and Timpview finished tied for first. Below are the results in order:

(Tie 1st – 310) Timpview

(Tie 1st – 310) Corner Canyon

(3rd – 317) Alta

(4th – 335) Sky Ridge

(5th – 337) Timpanogos

(6th – 338) Orem

(7th – 350) Mountain view

(8th – 374) Provo

Next week is a tournament at Soldier Hollow. Soldier Hollow and Sleepy Ridge are mixed up imo. Soldier Hollow is on a ridge, so it should be called Soldier Ridge; Sleepy Ridge is nowhere near a ridge- closer to a hollow – should be called Sleepy Hollow. I’m sure nobody living in that area would have any issues with a name like that!

Ichabob!

I think i keep screwing up Tommy’s rounds by being too close when I watch, but I may have found the answer today. At the end of the round, I moved down past where the kids hit and he seemed to be doing much better.

Funny memory, one time at the range at Sleepy some guy kept talking to me and was like, Are you on the radio? Um…. 😉

The Bitter Taste of Defeat!

Today’s region tourney was at River Oaks golf course. Tommy shot 25th best overall and Timpview finished second. Below are the results in order:

(1st – 297) Corner Canyon

(2nd – 308) Timpview

(3rd – 332) Timpanogos

(4th – 335) Alta

(5th – 337) Sky Ridge

(6th – 343) Orem

(7th – 358) Mountain view

(8th – 364) Provo

Tons of Golf Lately!

Tourney Saturday, today and tomorrow. I wish it was more spread out over fall and spring instead of just fall. Texas has tourneys all year, same number, just spread apart.
Today was a region battle for the kids at Fox Hollow (old Tri-City). Tommy shot 8th best overall and Timpview won. Below are the results in order:
(1st – 301) Timpview
(2nd – 305) Corner Canyon
(3rd – 314) Alta
(4th – 335) Orem
(5th – 337) Timpanogos
(6th – 346) Sky Ridge
(7th – 351) Mountain view
(8th – 375) Provo.
About scoring, I didn’t understand till this year how high school golf worked. This is how I understand it. You can have as many people on a team as you want, but you can only take 6 varsity and 4 jv to tournaments. You can swap player orders tournament to tournament. When figuring scores, you take the best 4 scores out of the six varsity to get a total score.

I only shot one video today. It was after this crazy high 300yd drive of Tommy’s. He then had a chip to the green on the par 4 and was disappointed he didn’t get his next shot closer than 15 ft. Pretty solid day, shot par on front nine and then 6 over on the back.

Out-of-Region Tourney in Syracuse at Glen Eagle

Yesterday was an out-of-region golf tourney at Glen Eagle Golf Course in Syracuse (way out by Antelope Island). I took enough pics to feel like a paparazzo.

So far, the Timpview team has won their two in-region tournaments, but this one showed there’s always room to improve. This was a mixed 5a / 4a tourney. The 5a teams were American Fork, Bingham, Clearfield, Davis, Fremont, ???, Northridge, Pleasant Grove, Syracuse, Viewmont, Weber and Woods Cross. The 4a teams were Bonneville, Box Elder, and Timpview.

Winner was Davis (Davis has some really good golfers!)

It was a long drive to the golf course and I expected them to be nearly done by the time I got there, but they weren’t even half-way though. All the kids were exhausted by the end. Still, really fun to watch.

Nike Golf No More

I was out golfing and pulled out this sleeve of Nike One golf balls and was playing one of them and Tommy stopped me and was like, Woah! You still have some Nike Ones! You should hold onto those!

So it got me thinking, with Nike now dropping out of golf equipment (completing the cycle they started with Tiger and are now ending with Tiger), is my Nike gear going to be worth more or less?

I still don’t understand them dropping out. How many companies say, We only made $750 M last year! Yeah, we gotta ditch that division!

I suppose though when you look at how much they charge for freaking socks it gives you some perspective. I mean, all the rage in kids basketball lately has been these $25 dollar socks that probably cost Nike 50 cents to make.

Regardless, I’ll miss Nike. I thought their gear was good, maybe not top tier, but good. I never liked the way the clubs hit, but we still ended up with more Nike gear than anything else. We have three Nike Bags, Two Nike sets of clubs, and I’ve probably bought more Nike golf balls than any other brand (that’s not saying a whole lot though cause I don’t buy that many golf balls). I never really considered them the best, but how egotistical do you have to be to say we’re quitting unless we’re killing the competition?

So I’m left wondering, should I play these last Nike Ones till the very last ball splashes or hold onto them?

Made the Varsity Golf Team

Tommy has a really nice golf bag, but made the switch to a new bag today because he made the varsity golf team as a freshman at his high school – a team that won two of the last three state titles.

Yeah, I’m pretty proud of him.
