Audi Fuel Pump

My son Tommy has been interested in cars lately and so I’ve been teaching him various small repairs, luckily we have cars that oblige. With the latest though, it proved tougher than I thought.

The Fuel pump went bad on the Audi a8. So we pulled the pump housing out of the fuel tank, replaced the pump, then tried to put it back, but the dang housing just wouldn’t go back in properly. We went looking for help online and the standard word was, “dont try to do this at home!” (great, thanks) Others said, “the A8 is too tricky for most and most mess it up and can only use 1/3 of the tank by not making proper connections.” But no one said exactly how to do it. Either videos skipped that step or said , do not to attempt.

I couldn’t get it in on first attempt, which was finagling with it for about a half hour. I’ve been sick and through in the Towel. Tommy wanted to keep working at it, so I kept giving him direction, but honestly I didn’t think he’d get it in. But, wouldn’t you know, he ended up succeeding! Everything was seated perfectly! Fuel gauge functioned properly. Fuel now got to the engine just fine. I’m pretty amazed!

No Free Lunch?

I was in a meeting yesterday where the presenter kept saying, “You never get a free lunch!” or “There’s no free lunch!” All I kept thinking was, bummer! I’m kinda of hungry…

Oh well, free lunch today! – and it’s one of my faves! Kneader’s Reuben. Thanks guys! I feel like I should share it with the guy who never gets a free lunch…

Is Deflategate Even Real

Interesting article about the whole deflated footballs thing. I personally don’t really care one way or another, but it was interesting to watch unfold. The one thing that’s bothered me throughout it though is the lack of accountability by the NFL. No one said to the NFL, if psi is so important than why doesn’t the NFL have a “check-in” and handle the footballs during game time? This whole episode is kind of alienating…

Original article is apparently gone, this one works too.

The Crunch in Figs is NOT a Bug’s Skeleton

Had this come up again today…

Years ago I listened to a speaker whose entire presentation culminated with the declaration that figs don’t have seeds, that the crunchy bits are insect parts! Gross right? Totally ruined Italy for me since figs grow like weeds there. Only thing is, it was total bs. While partly true that bug(s) get trapped in the flower as part of the pollination process, the developing fruit completely breaks down any trapped insect(s) with various enzymes.

It’s Surprising how much this story spread and how many still believe this myth -what with google and all. Figs DO have seeds! You should be able to enjoy your next fig treat in peace. I recently had a fig pizza that was especially delicious.

Cool Design Ideas

Was researching some backlit stone walls for a project and thought these were pretty amazing. These are all made with natural stone that’s cut thin enough so that it allows transmission of light.
