HS State Golf Tournament

Tommy finished 16th out of the 101 invited players at the state championship. He played as the team number one. Last year, as a freshman, he finished 48th, so good improvement. He’s been struggling lately with his swing, but that said, he’s pretty amazing to watch even when he’s struggling hitting the ball. Hole 7 is a pretty good example -see https://youtu.be/tA9i_g6AQDM?t=11m23s. He made the sports cover of the local paper and here’s a link to more pics from the paper Daily Herald.

Region Championship

Region play is over and Tommy made 1st team All-Region again. In fact, he was ranked second overall, but, for awards, they dropped the worst score from the year. This action boosted another kid and bumped Tommy to third. Last year he finished 11th, so good improvement. It was a good run, really consistent. It was amazing that every one of his tournament scores was within a 5 stroke range, so, again, really consistent. The Timpview team, coincidentally, also finished second. So the team will now move on to play in the State Championship at Talon’s Cove next week.

Glenmore Golf Tourney

Tommy shot the low round in region play at Glenmoor GC in rainy/windy conditions, winning by two strokes for his second varsity high school tournament win. This clip shows his chip-in birdie on the par 3, hole no. 16. Timpview, as a team, placed fourth, but I think they should still be in second place overall.

Golf Article

Here’s an article from a while ago about Timpview Golf with a couple mentions of Tommy – Timpview is still in second place a month later. Also, here’s the remaining high school golf schedule:

September 19th Glenmoor (Region Covers) 9am shotgun

September 26th Fox hollow 9am shotgun ($16 per player)

October 2-3 State Tournament at Talons Cove.

Lots of Golf

Tommy broke par today for the first time in a tournament by shooting a 69! He has played in 3 tournaments back to back to back (6 days out of 7) and it was taking a toll. The second of the 3 tournaments was an adult tournament called the Provo Open. In the Provo Open, he actually made the cut after two days to play a third and was partnered with a guy from the Canadian Tour. After 45 holes, Tommy was even leading him!

2017 Provo Open

My son got into the Provo Open and asked me to caddy for him. It was the first time I’ve caddied for him and it was actually really fun. Most of the kid’s tournaments don’t allow Caddy’s. He shot an opening round 77 but I think to make the cut he’ll probably have to shoot around 73 or 74 tomorrow, we’ll have to see how the scores come in. Regardless, it’s a great experience.
